Although, Las Vegas was founded in 1905, Sikh presence in the valley was not noticeable until late 1990s. As the GurSikh families grew in the valley, Sangat began to meet at available sites (mostly at GurSikh homes). With only 50 families in town, Sangat would take turn, preparing langar and host the kirtan programs.
With the leadership of few, the Las Vegas Sangat came together and began the journey to complete Guru’s house. Gurdwara Baba Deep Singh Ji came into being and held its official opening in September 2000.
That was 15 years ago! And we all have come a long way. Community has grown, as more residents have moved in. More visitors are coming into the town. Over the years Las Vegas population has doubled, visitor count has grown well above 45 million people a year. Sikh visitors count to the valley has grown; many of the visitors come to seek His blessing and visit Gurdwara sahib during their vacation in this destination town. The need for social and religious ceremony has grown. Current building is not able to meet the growing demand.
Our current Darbar hall (built in 2000) is about 875 square feet. There is not enough space for everyone who come to visit the Gurdwara Sahib. It can barely accommodate 70-80 people inside the hall. More often than not we have more Sangat than space to accommodate everyone inside the prayer hall.
Expansion of the building is due. We need to build the infrastructure with future needs in mind. There is a need for all of us to look forward, contribute to make a respectable place of worship that is inspirational, yet of respectful of the surrounding neighborhood; that promotes Gursikh principles of humility, partnership, and Sewa in a collaborative way.
We seek your support to fulfill this mission.
